What is RTI?
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a three tier approach to the identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.
RTI seeks to prevent academic failure through early intervention.
The three tiers:
Children are provided with the interventions in increasing levels to aid in their learning. Children are assessed before being put into a tier group through screening for at risk for poor learning outcomes and by data collected from testing. Children are monitored, observed and assessed to track effectiveness and moved tiers when necessary to increase learning.
The diagram below shows the three tiers there are to RTI:

Screening for children at risk of poor learning outcomes takes place, which through data- based decision making decides what tier they fit into for the multi-level prevention (the three tiers). Progress monitoring enables the teacher to track weather the child is benefiting from the tier they are in. When implemented well, all these elements aid improved student outcomes.
